Brite Idea

Blink is one of the largest light, art, and projection mapping events in the nation, which drew nearly 1.5 million people to the core of the city over a four-day period in 2019. A larger-than-life light toy was commissioned by the organizers of BLINK and was funded by ArtWorks and The City of Cincinnati. Brite Idea is a nearly half-ton, six-hundred hole installation that pays homage, in a big way, to a favorite children’s light toy. Standing at 6’ tall and 10’ wide, it was fabricated out of a powder coated steel frame, laser cut steel face panel, CNC-machined rubber gasketing, and 2” turned solid acrylic pegs. The pegs were painted with a color tinted automotive clear coat and back lit with hundreds of 12v LED lights, diffused through an acrylic panel. It sat on industrial strength casters so that it could be easily transported by two people. Initially concieved with the notion that the piece would be used to create static peg designs by the audiencethe action of rapidly selecting and placing pegs in itself was a suprising highlight for the younger attendees of BLINK.

Brite Idea currently splits its time entertaining visitors at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) and the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens.
