Plunge Beach Resort

A quirky interior update to an Art Deco beachfront resort hotel.

Brought in by the interior designer and art specifier on the project, their request was simply to “add something unique to the space,” rseulting in full fabrication and installation of the bar area, reception desk, and a marketplace. The back bar consisted of gabion baskets filled with white river stone and white slip-cast ceramic tropical fruits. The baskets were then stacked with a series of hardwood crates. These crate forms could also be seen flanking both sides of the bar to create lockable liquor storage. Back bar work surfaces were covered in black Corian and supported by a welded steel frame. The curved bar front was constructed of CNC-joined plywood carcasses wrapped in a chemically patinated copper panel. The copper bar face was then hand painted and under-lit. The bar top was made of polished copper and wrapped in hardwood. The curved hardwood reception desk with a black Corian work surface was “sticker bombed” with local, pop culture, and travel stickers on all the guest-facing surfaces. The marketplace used a mixture of maple butcher block, walnut ply, glass, and a locally painted mural.
